Coastal Heritage Society will be hosting their first Summer Film Series each Thursday beginning June 30through July 14 at 7 pm at Savannah History Museum, 303 Martin Luther King Jr., Savannah, GA 31401. The series will tackle some prevailing 20th century themes and conflicts and recognize the growth and prominence of filmmaking in Georgia, beginning in the 1990s through today.

The movies shown will be Take me to the Water (2011) on June 30 with a panel discussion with residents of Pin Point to follow, moderated by CHS’s Manager of Interpretation Emily Beck, Selma (2014) on July 7with an introduction by Vaughnette Goode-Walker, historian and founder of the Footprints of Savannah Walking Tour and Fried Green Tomatoes (1991) with an introduction by Michael Chaney, Film and Television Professor at SCAD.

“We are so excited to share this unique experience with our members and the community. The selected titles offer a diverse collection of Georgia-made films, and although quite different from one another, each film provides insight into the 20th and 21st centuries in our region,” said Catherine Duffy, Membership & Development Coordinator at CHS. “With the generous help of our panelists and presenters, we look forward to each engaging and entertaining evening with the audience.”

Each film will begin with a reception at 6:30 pm with themed appetizers, a cash bar and a signature cocktail for the evening. This event is open to the general public and tickets are $15 per person. Pre-registration is required at: http://www.chsgeorgia.org/films

The Summer Film Series is one of Coastal Heritage Society’s annual Cultured Coast events.
