Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, June 28th, 2016

On fourth of July weekend, July 2 through July 4 from 10 am to 4pm Tricentennial Park will host many holiday themed activities as part of our “A Family Fourth” event. Tricentennial Park is Coastal Heritage Society’s downtown museum complex, featuring three museums and three centuries of history.

“We would love to see local families here at Tricentennial Park to experience Savannah's fascinating 18th century history,” said Emily Beck, Coastal Heritage Society’s Manager of Interpretation. “There is really no better way to honor the July 4th holiday than by being present on a Revolutionary War battlefield and remembering those who fought here. Thankfully, we can do that right here in downtown Savannah!”

Savannah History Museum will have their “Loyalists and Liberty” tour at Battlefield Memorial Park and will be debuting some new American Revolutionary War programming as well on Monday, July 4th. Each immersive program includes visitor battle reenactments and musket firing demonstrations. There will also by live music by Three Fold Chord inside Savannah History Museum.

Savannah Children’s Museum will bring 18th century children's games and activities to Savannah History Museum, including an area to sign the Declaration of Independence with a quill pen. On-site Sunday at Savannah Children’s Museum visitors can have a Centrifugal Celebration with firework spin art and celebratory noisemakers. Savannah Children’s Museum will also be kicking off their “Local History” themed week on July 4th with many activities that explore Savannah’s unique past.

At Georgia State Railroad Museum guests can experience Summer Steam Days and catch a tour by rail on a 1913 coal-fired steam locomotive.

All “A Family Fourth” activities are included with museum admissions and are free for CHS members.
