Armstrong State University was recently selected to be an Authorized Academy Partner with CompTIA, the world’s largest developer of information technology certification exams. Together, CompTIA and the Center for Applied Cyber Education at Armstrong will collaborate to provide high quality educational technology opportunities to students.
 
“This is an important partnership for Armstrong,” said Scott C. Scheidt, director of the Center for Applied Cyber Education at Armstrong. “Now that we’re working with CompTIA, Armstrong will be able to offer industry certified training and examinations to our cyber students and the local cyber workforce.”
 
As an academy-level partner, the Center for Applied Cyber Education at Armstrong will have access to highly desirable instructional resources, training programs and certifications available only through CompTIA, giving Armstrong students a more enhanced and comprehensive learning experience geared towards future success in the information technology workplace. Additionally, Armstrong students will be eligible to take industry-leading certification exams at a significant discount compared to students from non-partnered universities.
 
As an extension of this partnership, the Center for Applied Cyber Education at Armstrong will now be able to offer certification training and examination support for the cyber workforce at Armstrong’s main campus in Savannah and at the university’s Liberty Center location in Hinesville, Ga. Discount vouchers are available for industry certifications including the CompTIA Security+ exam, a globally recognized and U.S. government approved benchmark that covers the best security practices in the information technology industry. This partnership will better prepare cyber education students for the evolving information technology landscape through comprehensive support and a robust portfolio of offerings from CompTIA and Armstrong.
 
In 2015, the National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security recognized Armstrong as a National Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education. Last month, the university signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence at Fort Gordon. Armstrong currently offers nine cyber-related degrees or certificate programs through blended campus and online learning.
