Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Wednesday, July 20th, 2016

Officials from across the Lowcountry region, along with Hargray Communications executives, will gather on July 20 for an event celebrating the one-year anniversary of the launch of the Lowcountry Broadband Plan. Held at Hargray’s headquarters at 870 William Hilton Parkway (Building C), the event will review achievements from the first year of the Lowcountry Broadband Plan, including Hilton Head Island’s first Fiber-to-the-Home communities. The new technology has the ability to provide residential customers and businesses with Internet speeds up to 100 times faster than the national average.

The event will also outline Hargray’s plans for the future. Leveraging the infrastructure improvements already made in the past 12 months, Hargray plans to continue to expand and upgrade its network in the coming year.

Speakers at the event will include:

- Michael Gottdenker, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Hargray Communications

- Lisa Sulka, Mayor, Town of Bluffton

- Jim Collett, Chair, Hilton Head Island Technology Task Force, Hilton Head Plantation Install

- Greg DeLoach, Assistant Town Manager, Hilton Head Island

Announced in June 2015, the Lowcountry Broadband Plan is a framework to deliver Gigabit Internet speeds and has three objectives:

- Provide Gigabit Internet services to residential communities where there is demonstrated demand

- Deliver Gigabit services to interested businesses

- Provide Gigabit WiFi in public areas, including select beaches

“Enormous gains have been made in the 12 months since we formally announced the launch of the Lowcountry Broadband Plan,” said Michael Gottdenker, Chairman and CEO of Hargray Communications. “This event is an opportunity to celebrate those accomplishments and show our appreciation for the many community partners who have enabled us to help make the Lowcountry one of America’s most technologically advanced communities. We’re excited to announce our plans for future improvements in 2017.
