Memorial University Medical Center received platinum level recognition, the highest level possible, from the national Hospital Organ Donation Campaign for its organ donation advocacy and education programs. No other hospital in Savannah achieved platinum status.

The nationwide Hospital Organ Donation Campaign launched in 2011 as a special effort of the Workplace Partnership for Life. Through the campaign, organ, eye, and tissue donation organizations work with hospitals to raise awareness about organ donation and register new donors. Memorial University Medical Center partners with LifeLink of Georgia.

“More than 4,900 people are waiting for organ transplants in Georgia. A single donor can save up to eight lives. It’s our job to educate people about the impact of eye, organ, and tissue donation and give them an opportunity to join the registry. Our Team Members do a wonderful job of providing this education, and this award is due to their hard work,” said Mary Chatman, Ph.D., R.N., chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at Memorial Health.
