To wrap-up a summer filled with learning, exploration and development, the Savannah Youth Ambassadors will host two upcoming Make-A-Difference community impact projects for the Carver Village and Paradise Park communities:

Team Carver Village

What: The youth have organized a day of fun with box fan giveaways to beat the heat, plants and vegetables for individual gardens and book bags for the youth. A DJ will be on hand to get the party started.

When: July 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Kennedy Park – across from the Carver Village Community Center at 925 Collat Ave.

“Royal Paradise Parkers”

What: The Youth Ambassadors present “A Day In Paradise”. SYA, in partnership with several City departments and community businesses, will host an information fair in addition to providing minor yard maintenance to residents who need assistance.

When: July 30, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Where: White Bluff Presbyterian Church, 10710 White Bluff Road

SYA is a leadership training institute for high school students sponsored by the City of Savannah Community and Economic Development Bureau. This year forty youth, ranging in age from 14 to 18, have participated in SYA, receiving a variety of hands-on training sessions, visiting local neighborhoods, businesses, cultural and civic institutions, and working in teams to research, design, coordinate and implement M.A.D. projects.

In preparation for the M.A.D. projects, the SYA teams met with neighborhood leadership and surveyed residents to learn about the selected communities in order to design a project based on the needs of the residents. SYA participants took part in leadership development courses focusing on personal, social and community development. Additionally, they learned project management, budgeting and marketing skills to make their projects successful.
