Senior Citizens, Inc. is pleased to announce it has recently expanded its Meals on Wheels program to Bryan County, Ga. The Meals on Wheels program is a vital community safety net for the nation’s aging population -- the fastest growing segment of the population in America -- that delivers hot, fresh, nutritious meals and provides friendly visits and safety checks that enable seniors to live nourished lives with independence and dignity.

To help support this critical community program, SCI is seeking volunteer drivers to help deliver meals once a week to homebound seniors on the new routes in Bryan County. Route deliveries start at 11 a.m. and take about one hour. SCI, which prepares the meals, will provide training to all volunteer drivers. Volunteers must have their own vehicle.

“One out of every six seniors in the U.S. does not know where their next meal is coming from,” said SCI President Patti Lyons. “There are seniors in your neighborhood who don't have enough to eat and you can make a huge difference by becoming a Meals on Wheels volunteer.”

Meals on Wheels America is the oldest and largest national organization supporting more than 5,000 community-based programs across the country that are dedicated to addressing senior isolation and hunger. To sign up or learn more about becoming a Meals on Wheels volunteer driver, please contact Lily McCormick, SCI’s Director of Volunteers, at 912.236.0363.
