Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, August 29th, 2016

Art Rise Savannah is excited to announce yet another awesome collaboration between regional and state partners.

For the month of September, the Georgia FENCE will be visiting Savannah and starting its four city journey through the state. The Georgia FENCE is two 100-foot long vinyl banners that will encircle the construction fences of the Perry Street Hotel and the One West Park building and feature photography from ten notable Georgia photographers.

The project, a collaboration with Atlanta Celebrates Photography and United Photo Industries, is inspired by the FENCE, a national public art project traveling throughout the United States. The Georgia FENCE was juried from a statewide call for entries by Maria Kelly of the High Museum of Art, Carson Sanders and Taylor Curry or Ain’t Bad Magazine, Mary Stanley of Mary Stanley Studio, Alan Rothschild of the Do Good Fund, Elan Buchen of the Atlanta Beltline, and Amy Miller of Atlanta Celebrates Photography. The fence banners feature the photography of Casey Brown, Blake Burton, Fernando Decillis, Andrew Feiler, Nick Gruenberg, Patrick Heagney, Kelly Kline, Paige McFall, Dorothy O’Connor, and Michael Reese.

The unprecedented Georgia FENCE will travel the state this fall promoting the work of our outstanding talent. The Georgia FENCE will be featured in Columbus, GA in partnership with Columbus State University and Uptown Columbus, in Thomasville, GA in partnership with the Thomasville Center for the Arts, in Gainesville, GA in partnership with The Arts Council, and in Savannah, Georgia in partnership with Art Rise Savannah, Inc.

The Georgia FENCE will be installed on the north side of the construction fence at the Perry Street Hotel project on East McDonough St. between Drayton St. and Floyd St. and on the east side of the construction fence at 1 West Park on Bull St. and Park St. at the south end of Forsyth Park.

This project is made possible through generous support from the Forward Arts Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. Art Rise would also like to thank Bouhan and Falligant, DPR, and FLANK for their support in securing locations.
