Art Rise Savannah Calls for Submissions to Construction Fence Mural Contest

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, August 9th, 2016

Art Rise Savannah invites Savannah artists of all ages to submit designs for a mural located at the construction site of a new boutique hotel at 412 Williamson Street in Historic Downtown Savannah. Artists may submit their work at artrisesavannah.org/constructionmural until August 15th, 2016. The winner of the contest will be announced on Saturday, August 20th.

The winning artwork from this contest will be displayed on a 20-foot vinyl mesh banner at the construction site, a prime location in the downtown area. This mural will be joined by three others designed by local Savannah artists Dana Leahy, Will Penny, and Jessica Duthu for a total of 80 feet of artwork. The first large mural designed by Mrs. Duthu was revealed at the groundbreaking for the hotel in early June.

The contest is open to artists working in all mediums who reside or attend school in Chatham County during the duration of the contest. Each contestant may only submit one design for consideration. The winning design will be printed on a vinyl mesh banner and installed on the fence for the duration of construction.

With this project, Art Rise Savannah will help facilitate the creation of community conscious public art works. The Construction Fence Mural Project will provide visibility for four local artists and Savannah’s greater community of artists as well.
