On Wednesday, August 24, Savannah Country Day School and St. Andrew’s Independent School partnered to present the first annual Savannah Independent School College Fair. Held at The Armstrong Center, the fair featured over 120 national and international colleges and universities. Students from St. Andrew’s, Country Day, St. Vincent’s Academy, Calvary Day School, Frederica Academy, Beaufort Academy, Bible Baptist, Benedictine, Habersham School, Bethesda Academy, Savannah Christian and Veritas had the opportunity to talk with college admissions counselors from across the country.

"This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to speak with college representatives from 28 states and five foreign countries” said Director of College Counseling Chris Beckmann. "One would normally have to travel to Atlanta, Charlotte, or Miami to experience a college fair on this scale.”

The event evolved from a series of collaborative discussions between Dawn Berger, Assistant Director of College Counseling at SCDS, and Wendy Sutton, Director of College Counseling at St. Andrew’s.

“There's no substitute for actually visiting college campuses, but it's an expensive and time-consuming process,” said Assistant Director of College Counseling Dawn Berger. “A college fair provides our students the opportunity to learn about many colleges in one afternoon, often schools they haven't even heard of. Aside for a handful of alumni reps, the people behind the tables are admission counselors who will have a hand in our students' admission decisions. It's great that our kids have the chance to speak with them. I hope that it also reminds our students just how many different colleges there are for them to consider. “
