Alderman Van Johnson and the West Savannah Concerned Citizens Organization invite the residents of West Savannah, Hudson Hill and Woodville communities to discuss the need and plans for a full service grocery store in the West Savannah area. This meeting will be held on Monday, August 22 at 6:00 p.m. at the Moses Jackson Community Center, 1410 Richards Street.

The USDA defines a food desert and a "low access community" as a community with a minimum of 500 people, and/or at least 33 percent of the census tract's population, who reside more than one mile from a supermarket or large grocery store.

"It is a shame that in 2016, in the most powerful nation on earth, in one of the greatest cities in this country, that we still have residents living in impoverished areas defined by the lack of quality, affordable food options," said Alderman Van Johnson, who represents this area. "We have demonstrated why our residents want a grocery store, need a grocery store and deserve a grocery store in this area."
