Armstrong State University’s Military Resource and Veterans Services Center recently received six laptops donated by Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. The center provides support services to more than 1,000 military-affiliated students on campus.

"Gulfstream has a proud tradition of supporting our nation's veterans,” noted Davis Purdom, military outreach recruiting analyst for Gulfstream. “We are pleased to make a contribution that will assist Armstrong's military students in achieving their academic goals. These laptops have also helped young people in Savannah learn important skills -- with the help of the Urban Stem program, gently used Gulfstream computers were given to local students to refurbish for nonprofit organizations. Once completely overhauled and running like new, we were able to donate them to Armstrong and its Student Veterans of America chapter.”

Armstrong’s Military Resource and Veterans Services Center provides information about financial aid, housing, medical and behavioral health assistance and VA benefits for all military-affiliated students. A resource library and individual and group tutoring sessions are also available, as is a student lounge designated for military, veteran and family member students to relax, network and study.

"We are grateful to Gulfstream for being a committed community partner and neighbor to Armstrong, and thank them for their generosity,” said Armstrong Military Education Coordinator Phil Gore. “These computers will provide our military-affiliated students greater access to the resources they need to be successful in their courses of study.”

Earlier this year, Armstrong was ranked 7th among four-year schools on the prestigious Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2016 list and named a Top 100 Military Spouse Friendly School by Military Spouse magazine. The university is also part of a network that guarantees transferability of credits for military students, provides in-state tuition for members of the military and their families and offers college credit for military experience.
