Savannah Speech and Hearing Center, a nonprofit organization serving the speech pathology and audiology needs of the Coastal Empire since 1954, recently promoted Tracy Edenfield to program director of Sound Start, an auditory/oral program for children with hearing loss.

In her position as program director, Edenfield is responsible for providing assistance to and working with the Sound Start students as they progress in the auditory/oral program, including listening, language, vocabulary, pre-reading, and speech.  It is Edenfield’s goal to create a targeted curriculum that addresses the specific needs of students on a listening and spoken language track that will encourage success as they mainstream into regular educational settings with their hearing peers.

Edenfield has been the lead teacher at Sound Start for the past four years. Edenfield received a B.S. in Speech Pathology and Deaf Education from Armstrong State University.  She went on to receive a Master of Science in reading at Georgia Southern University and a Master of Science in adult literacy and community leadership from Armstrong State University.

Currently, Edenfield is pursuing a doctoral degree in Curriculum Studies from Georgia Southern University.  In addition, Edenfield is working on her certification from Alexander Graham Bell as a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist.
