TailsSpin to Merge with Bentley's Pet Stuff

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, September 6th, 2016

Savannah Georgia based TailsSpin Pet Food & Accessories is pleased to announce that it will be merging with Bentley's Pet Stuff, based in Chicago, IL.  With the joining of forces TailsSpin co-owners and husbands Jusak Yang Bernhard and Jeff Manley will help oversee major expansion in the southeast region along with Bentley's Lisa and Giovanni Senafe, as the company plans to open additional TailsSpin locations in Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. The merger is slated to complete at end of September.

Born and raised in Savannah, TailsSpin first opened its doors for business in October of 2007 at the corner of Whitaker and Duffy Streets, just one block south of Forsyth Park. It quickly outgrew that storefront, so in early 2009 Jusak Yang Bernhard and Jeff Manley moved the store to its current location at Habersham Village in Midtown Savannah.  Additionally TailsSpin has opened two more stores, in Pooler and Whitemarsh Island.

TailsSpin has won numerous awards over the years, including being named Retailer of the Year by Pet Product News Magazine for 2015-2016.

Bentley's Pet Stuff is a family-owned business with over 30 store locations in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Colorado.  Bentley's is one of the largest independent natural pet supply retailers in the country.  Wife and husband Lisa and Giovanni Senafe opened their first store 2008 with a mission to feed animal lovers' pets genuine high quality ingredients.  Bentley's Pet Stuff offers natural pet food, a variety of treats, toys, and more.

Bentley's was just named 2016-2017 Pet Retailer of the Year by Pet Product News Magazine. The company was also applauded when it instituted its own minimum wage of $12.25 per hour earlier this year, which is more than 65% higher than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.

“A mutual friend of ours made an introduction, at the 2016 Superzoo National Trade Show for Pet Retailers," describes Senafe.  "Georgia wasn’t even on our  radar, but the three of us hit it off and found so much in common, personally and professionally.  Merging the two entities just makes perfect sense."

Joining two consecutive national Pet Retailer of the Year award winners certainly is a sure bet for a successful business marriage in the pet industry, which has grown to over 60 billon dollars in sales last year.  "This partnership will allow us to help more pet owners discover the benefits of better nutrition while allowing more opportunities for advancement for our dedicated diverse staff," said Bernhard. “This partnership allows TailsSpin to expand on its strong reputation of community support, extending Savannah’s southern hospitality to other corners of the country” Jeff Manley of TailsSpin confirms.
