Anthony Avino, MD FACS Elected President of Georgia Vascular Society

Dr. Anthony Avino is a board-certified vascular surgeon practicing in Savannah and Vidalia, Georgia since 1999.  He will serve as president of the Georgia Vascular Society during the 2016-2017 association year. GVS is the only statewide vascular surgery society and is dedicated to advancing education, research and innovative treatments of vascular patients.  Dr. Avino was one of the founding members of GVS which now has over 75 member vascular surgeons throughout Georgia. He is also on the board and a founding member of the Georgia Vascular Foundation, a society dedicated to the education and recruitment of the brightest medical students to a possible career in Vascular Surgery.    

Dr. Avino has practiced for 16 years as an open vascular and minimally-invasive endovascular surgeon. He is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery and Radiology at Mercer University School of Medicine.  He practices at Savannah Vascular and Cardiac Institute in Savannah and Vidalia, Georgia.

Dr. Avino received his undergraduate degree cum laude from Vanderbilt University and completed medical school and residency at the University of Florida.  He did an additional year of training and research in vascular surgery at the Mayo Clinic and two additional years of fellowship training at the University of South Florida.  He has been board-certified in vascular surgery since 2001.

Dr. Avino is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of multiple vascular surgery societies. He specializes in traditional open arterial and venous vascular surgery and minimally-invasive endovascular interventions for aneurysms, PAD, varicose veins and diabetic limb salvage.
