Armstrong Department Head Appointed to State Board of Physical Therapy

Anne Thompson, PT, Ed.D., who serves as Armstrong State University’s head of the Rehabilitation Sciences Department, has been appointed to the State Board of Physical Therapy by Governor Nathan Deal. Thompson, who is also the university’s director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, will be sworn in on Nov. 15.

The Georgia State Board of Physical Therapy seats eight appointed members who monitor public health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Georgia. The board meets approximately six times each year to control, supervise and regulate over 6,000 licensed physical therapists and over 2,000 licensed physical therapist assistants practicing in Georgia.

Active with the American Physical Therapy Association, Thompson served as president of the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia from 2005 to 2008 and as vice president from 1998 to 2002. She is also a member of the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy Nominating Committee.

Thompson has worked as a physical therapist in Savannah for over 35 years, with experience in multiple areas of physical therapy practice. She earned an Ed.D. from Georgia Southern University, a M.S. in Physical Therapy from Duke University and a B.S. in Psychology from the College of William & Mary.
