City of Savannah Prepares for Hurricane Matthew

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Thursday, October 6th, 2016

The City of Savannah moved to OPCON 3 on Wednesday, and made preparations across all operations in anticipation of Hurricane Matthew.

At this time, all City offices and services will remain open and operational Thursday, including Sanitation services, utility bill payment, permitting, inspections and parking meter enforcement. Recorder’s Court, which operates out of a County facility, has been canceled. The City’s Visitor Centers, operated by Visit Savannah, will also be closed.

The City plans to open its Emergency Coordination Center Thursday morning and begin staffing it 24 hours a day to coordinate critical City functions. City crews have mobilized assets and enacted emergency plans to prepare for Hurricane Matthew.

No evacuation orders have been issued within the City limits at this time, though residents are urged to monitor this dangerous hurricane and take pro-active steps to protect their property and family.
