Jahylin McKee will be crowned Miss Savannah State University for 2016-17 during Homecoming week festivities on Thursday, October 27, at 7 p.m. in Tiger Arena. McKee is a senior mass communications major, with a concentration in public relations, from Lawrenceville, Georgia. She is a student orientation leader, a Tiger ambassador and a peer tutor.

Miss SSU will be attended by her court, representing each class of SSU.

Miss Senior is Ashlyn Sadberry, a criminal justice major from Atlanta, Georgia. She volunteers with “Get In The Know,” an AIDS prevention and awareness program on campus. She is a member of the National Council of Negro Women and a recipient of the HOPE scholarship.

Miss Junior is Unique Chapman from Atlanta, Georgia. She is majoring in social work. Chapman is a student orientation leader and is a member of the campus chapter of NAACP.

Miss Sophomore is Aliyah Davis, a mass communication major with a concentration in audio/visual communications from Covington, Georgia.  Davis is a member of the campus chapter of NAACP and is a community volunteer.

Miss Freshman is Mariah Truitt, a computer science technology major from Stockbridge, Georgia. In high school, Truitt was a summa cum laude graduate and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Other campus queens will be presented during the coronation ceremony, which is free and open to the public. Also recognized during the ceremony will be the first ever Mr. Savannah State University. Mr. SSU is Rakeeb Akanda, a computer systems information major from Jonesboro, Georgia. He is a member of the Army ROTC program, recipient of the ROTC scholarship and on the honor roll.
