Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Friday, October 14th, 2016

Ogeechee Riverkeeper is busy planning for its biggest and most exciting fundraising event of the year – the third annual “Oysters for the Ogeechee” Oyster Roast. The celebratory soiree is slated for 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at the Isle of Hope Marina, 50 W. Bluff Drive in Savannah.

“Oysters for the Ogeechee” will feature all the steamed oysters that guests can eat, plus an appetizing array of land lover’s food from Barnes Express and a limited-edition specialty brew from Moon River Brewing Company. DJ Jose Ray will spin classic rock tunes as attendees bid on a selection of special silent auction items and check out raffle prizes. This year’s event sponsors include Milliken, Chatham Steel, Queensborough Bank, J.L. Williamson Law Group, Hasley Recreation, Bernard Williams Insurance, Claxton Poultry, Isle of Hope Marina, Southern Environmental Law Center and Royal Restrooms.

Ogeechee Riverkeeper Executive Director Emily Markesteyn Kurilla said the 2015 oyster roast, which marked the nonprofit’s 10th year in operation, was incredibly successful.

“We had a great crowd at last year’s event. Everyone had a lot of fun, and the outpouring of support and encouragement for ORK’s work was inspirational. We’re grateful to everyone who came out, and we hope to have an even bigger showing at this year’s oyster roast,” Markesteyn Kurilla said.

Tickets to this event are limited and can be booked in advance for $45 per ticket or $40 each for groups of two or more. Tickets purchased the day of the event will be an additional $5 each. A VIP wristband, available only in advance, can be purchased for $90 or $80 each for two or more. VIP wristbands include private seating with your own oyster table, server and a private bar.
