Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Friday, November 18th, 2016

The Small Business Chamber and Buy Local Savannah are proud to announce their partnership for this year’s Small Business Saturday, taking place on November 26th, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Small BusinessSaturday is a national initiative, founded by American Express, aimed at getting consumers to spend locally and support the small businesses in their community.  This collaboration marks an official designation as a Neighborhood Champion with American Express.

Small Business Chamber President, Ammie Dover, is reaching out to other professional organizations throughout the Greater Savannah Area to explore ways they can not only get involved, but get their member businesses involved as well. “This isn’t just about the Small Business Chamber or Buy Local Savannah. This is about the entire Greater Savannah area and we want to showcase a strong collaboration. This is our first year for a coordinated regional effort. Our goal is to make Small Business Saturday a success in our market as well as nationwide.”

The two organizations will be launching a social media campaign, featuring #ShopSmallSAV, and setting up numerous opportunities for locally owned businesses to get involved. Mickey Minick, Vice President of Buy Local Savannah, is one of the committee members spearheading these efforts. “We, at Buy Local Savannah, are so excited to be partnering with our friends at the Small Business Chamber. Small businesses provide an investment in a community. For every $100 spent in locally owned, independent stores, more than half of it returns to the local economy through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. Small Business Saturday is just one opportunity for us to support and spotlight some of those incredible businesses.” Any small businesses interested in participating should visit the Buy Local Savannah website at www.buylocalsavannah.com or the Small Business Saturday Savannah Facebook page at www.facebook.com/pages/ShopSmallSAV for more information and a link to sign up.
