Holiday Decorations Coming to Broughton Street

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Thursday, November 17th, 2016

On Friday, November 18 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon students from SCAD SERVE will be installing garland teardrops, bows and light pole wraps on the 117-lamp posts along Broughton Street between Montgomery and Lincoln streets.  Businesses along Broughton Street will also be participating in the decorating efforts.  SERVE is the volunteer organization of the Savannah College of Art and Design. SERVE exists to educate and foster life-learning and social responsibility and to provide students, faculty/staff with a chance to serve the Savannah community through different volunteering opportunities.

On Saturday, November 19 starting at 4 a.m. and ending by 12 noon, the City of Savannah will be installing the holiday lights over Broughton Street between Montgomery and Lincoln. The City will be working one block at a time. Off-duty police officers will block traffic so the crews will be able to work without interruption and cause minimal disturbance to commercial activity along the corridor. When necessary, they will let out persons who are parked in the block. After the lights have been installed, the block will open for vehicular traffic.
