Judge Realty Announces the 2016 Public Art Project Intersection with Artist Will Penny

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, November 28th, 2016

Judge Realty proudly hosts local artist Will Penny as the third artist for a public art project on the prominent facade of 347 Abercorn Street. Entitled Intersection, Penny will use manipulated light and motion graphics each night from 7-9 PM starting December 7th and running through December 28th.

Intersection, a light installation, will employ three mounted projectors that cast a series of light and form patterns into two-dimensional abstract designs. The site-specific installation will evolve over the course of a month to display incorporating animations which reflect a theme of environment, economy, and energy.

Lori Judge, founder and C.E.O. of Judge Realty, said, “I have been a fan and collector of Will Penny for many years. When I was introduced to his large-scale work I knew we needed to incorporate it into Judge Public Art Projects. I am excited to see the transformation of the facade of Judge Realty into one of his evolving masterpieces.”

This year’s public art project was a collaborative effort by not only Will Penny and Judge Realty but also several local businesses looking to support and advance the definition of public art in Savannah. W Projects, Laney Contemporary, Tharpe Engineering, and Evans General Contractors have all donated time, capabilities and funding to the project to help push the envelope of public creative expression. In addition, throughout the tenure of the project, Judge will also be raising funds and continued support for the #art912 program with Telfair Museums. #art912 is an initiative dedicated to raising the visibility and promoting the vitality of artists living and working in Savannah through exhibition opportunities, public programs, and outreach.

Will Penny is a Savannah based multi-media artist. He utilizes digital technology as the vehicle for the conversion of his designs into various mediums of two and three dimensional public art. He received a diploma in Fine Art from Fanshawe College in London, Ontario and a BFA and MFA in Painting from The Savannah College of Art and Design. Penny’s work dissolves traditional boundaries of art and design.  His art explores tensions between the tangible space a painting inhabits and the impact of digital technology on fabricated forms and illusionistic environments.  By creating systems of interactivity with digital technologies, his work confronts the way information is generated, transmitted, and received. He has exhibited in The United States and Canada.
