Wednesday, December 7th, 2016

Savannah State University’s 189th Commencement will be held on Saturday, December 10, at 9 a.m. in Tiger Arena. Approximately 300 students will graduate with associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees during the ceremony.

The commencement speaker will be University System of Georgia Chancellor Henry “Hank” Huckaby, who oversees the 29 public colleges and universities in the USG.

Prior to becoming chancellor, Huckaby was a teacher and administrator in the university system and taught at private colleges and universities. He also served in the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget, first as a senior policy coordinator and later as its director, as well as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, and as the executive director of the Georgia Residential Finance Authority.

He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Georgia State University. He continued his education through additional graduate studies at the University of Georgia. Huckaby will retire after five years as chancellor at the end of the calendar year.

Due to ongoing road repairs, guests should follow posted signs to reach Tiger Arena and other destinations on campus.

Overflow locations are Torian Auditorium in the Howard Jordan Building, the Chan Auditorium in Whiting Hall and room 115 in the Social Sciences Building. The ceremony will be available by webcast at each overflow location.
