Wednesday, December 7th, 2016

Jesse Demonbreun-Chapman has announced his resignation as Ogeechee Riverkeeper’s Watershed Outreach Coordinator, effective December 16, 2016. He has spent the past two and a half years leading Adopt-A-Stream monitoring workshops, planning and guiding paddle trips, facilitating classroom and teacher education, and writing grants.

Demonbreun-Chapman will join the Coosa River Basin Initiative in Rome, Ga., as the new Riverkeeper and Executive Director. CRBI is a like-minded Riverkeeper organization tasked with protecting the waterways in Northwest Georgia.

“I’m grateful to Ogeechee Riverkeeper, Executive Director Emily Markesteyn Kurilla, the board of directors, and our very dedicated volunteers for providing me with the opportunity to serve this organization and advocate for a cleaner and healthier Ogeechee River basin. It has been an honor working and paddling alongside incredible people who care deeply about this remarkable river. While my family and I are excited about our next chapter back in Northwest Georgia, we are truly going to miss everyone who made this work so rewarding,” Demonbreun-Chapman said.

Kurilla said she’s sad to lose Demonbreun-Chapman’s skills and enthusiasm for matters pertaining to environmental education and conservation.

She said, “Coosa River Basin Initiative is getting a talented Executive Director. We wish Jesse much success in his new endeavors.”

Ogeechee Riverkeeper will announce workforce organization plans and details pertaining to other initiatives in the new year.
