The Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus will present their beloved annual Holiday Pops concert on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016 at the Johnny Mercer Theater, 301 W. Oglethorpe Ave. This high-energy, fun-filled performance has become a Coastal Empire holiday tradition, providing residents with the perfect opportunity to enjoy the sounds of the season.

This concert will feature musical favorites both old and new for everyone, including traditional tunes, sing-along melodies, and holiday classics. American Traditions Vocal Competition’s 2016 Gold Medalist, Michael Maliakel, will join in the excitement for the performance at 7:30 p.m. During the afternoon, the Savannah Children’s Choir makes guest appearance during a family matinee performance at 3 p.m. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate this season of peace, love and job with beautiful music.

Savannah Philharmonic Conductor and Artistic Director Peter Shannon has seen firsthand how the iconic Holiday Pops has become a treasured local tradition.

“The Holiday Pops concert is a huge favorite with so many of our audience. It's easy to see why because it gets everyone in the holiday spirit; even if it is 80 degrees outside! The full orchestra, chorus and soloists playing and singing their hearts out with the best of Christmas music will make anyone smile,” said Shannon. “The afternoon family concert is such fun. I love to see families with young kids making memories with The Savannah Philharmonic! That's a great Christmas gift for me.”

The 7:30 p.m. performance on Saturday, Dec. 17 is the perfect way to cap off a day of holiday merriment in beautiful downtown Savannah. Patrons can spend an afternoon browsing in quaint shops on festively decorated Broughton Street, enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the historic district’s many local restaurants, and head to the Savannah Civic Center for a joyous evening of classic Christmas tunes, courtesy of the Philharmonic.

Families with little ones will delight in the afternoon Holiday Pops matinee, also at the Civic Center, which will feature the Savannah Children’s Choir. The one-hour Family Matinee starts at 3 p.m.
