Artist Trice Megginson will present an exhibition entitled Reconstructing the Narrative: Illuminating Savannah’s Civil Rights History at the City Hall Rotunda. The pieces can be viewed by the public until July 31, 2017.

In the body of work, Megginson looks to the past to find inspiration and to interpret the present. His work is centered on the social and political history of a place.

Using archival and historical photographs from the Jim Crow era and the Civil Rights Movement in Savannah preserved in the W. W. Law Collection, he rephotographed the original, depicted locations. The historical images are then physically pinned onto the contemporary views. This results in constructed images consisting of layered photographs sharing a physical space that simultaneously show both an untold history of the city and the views one sees today.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. City Hall, located at 2 E. Bay Street, is open from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
