Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Wednesday, January 25th, 2017

The Savannah Philharmonic and Trick’s Barbecue present Philharmonic in the Streetz on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017 from 1-4 pm, at Tricks BBQ at Bull and 42nd Streets in Savannah. This family-friendly block party for the neighborhood is a collaboration between Peter Shannon, the Savannah Philharmonic’s Artistic Director, Trick’s BBQ.

Open to all, especially children, and designed to celebrate music and neighborhood, Philharmonic in the Streetz will feature Philharmonic musicians performing on an outdoor stage during the afternoon of Jan. 29. Laiken Love and the Fellowship of Love will perform, as well as members of the Philharmonic’s brass section, and Ricardo Ochoa and Friends. Magic Marc will be the emcee; the program includes his MAGICATION world of fun for kids of all ages. Special childrens’ activities will be provided by Starlandia. Trick’s BBQ will be open with food and drink available for purchase.

Savannah Philharmonic Conductor and Artistic Director Peter Shannon is very enthusiastic about this new initiative.

“This is a first for the Savannah Philharmonic. This project brings us into the streets, in this case the street corner at my good friends at Trick's BBQ to bring some great music into the west side of Savannah. My hope is that good food and music will be a catalyst for healthy conversation and exchange within our diverse community as to how we can all help each other and allow Savannah to reach its true potential. I couldn't do this without the wonderful Magic Marc, who will be performing and emceeing the event with me and the fantastic musicians of the Savannah Philharmonic. I'm delighted to have Clinton Edminster and Starlandia helping us engage people of all ages with art activities to make this a great day!”
