Roxana J. Javid, Ph.D., assistant professor of civil engineering presented a research project at the annual Transportation Research Board meeting in Washington, D.C., in January. The project is aimed at enhancing traffic management with big data analytics. Javid was joined by senior civil engineering technology SSU students Sarah Dillard, of Atlanta, Ga.; Brandon Davis, of Atlanta, Ga.; Jamelle Jaudon, of Rincon, Ga., and Terrence Staten, of Louisville, Ky. Suman Niranjan, Ph.D., associate professor of business management, was also joined by business student Niegel Middleton, of Savannah, Ga.

Dillard, Davis, Jaudon, Staten and Middleton are SSU recipients of the Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program. DDETFP competitively awards fellowships to qualified students in the field of transportation research in order to bring innovation and advance the scope of expertise of the transportation community in the United States. As a part of this award, Davis presented a research project at the meeting aimed at improving transportation infrastructure in coastal regions.

This program is administered by the Federal Highway Administration for the U.S. Department of Transportation and the applications are evaluated by the Eisenhower Graduate Fellowships National Review Panel.

The 96th annual meeting attracted more than 12,000 transportation professionals from around the world with more than 5,000 presentations in over 800 sessions and workshops, addressing topics of interest to researchers, and representatives of government, industry and academic institutions.
