Chatham County District Attorney Meg Heap to Lead Crime Update Discussion Wednesday, February 8th

It’s a new year, but crime continues to take center stage in Savannah and Chatham County. District Attorney Meg Heap will address this and other issues at the Savannah Downtown Business Association’s luncheon on Wednesday, February 8.

Networking begins at 11:30AM and lunch is at 12PM at the Charles Morris Center in Trustees Garden, 10 East Broad Street.  This event is sponsored by Allied Universal Security Services. The event is open to the public and the deadline to register is Friday, February 3. Cost is $25 for SDBA members and $35 for non-members. If space permits after the deadline, cost will be $35 for SDBA members and $40 for non-members.

A Savannah native, Heap has served as District Attorney since 2013 and was elected in 2012. Her previous experience includes serving as Chatham County’s Chief Assistant D.A. as well as work in the Cherokee County D.A.’s office. Over the years she has handled Superior Court cases such as child molestation, murder and a variety of felony cases.  In 2005, Heap became the first prosecutor in Georgia to be assigned to handle elder and disabled adult abuse cases.

Heap’s lifelong passion of working with crime victims and senior citizens began when she was a Volunteer Coordinator and Victim Advocate with the Victim-Witness Assistance Program. She currently serves as president of the District Attorney’s Association of Georgia and as a board member of the Coastal Children’s Advocacy Center and The United Way of the Coastal Empire.

A graduate of St. Vincent’s Academy, Heap attended Georgia Southern University where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.  Heap obtained her Juris Doctorate from Mercer University. She is married to a retired prosecutor and has two sons.
