Local Businesswoman Training for Boston Marathon is Helping Raise Money for Girls on the Run of Coastal Georgia

A local businesswoman is putting her love of running to help a good cause. Pam Howe, Vice President of Accounting at Bernard Williams & Company and a volunteer coach with Girls on the Run of Coastal Georgia (GOTR), is training for the 2017 Boston Marathon and raising money to help the organization. “GOTR helps to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident and I saw this as a way to help this great organization,” Howe explains.

This is the first time that Howe has registered as a SoleMate to raise money for GOTR but this is not her first marathon. Howe first started running just a few years ago at age 50, and since then has run several marathons, including the 2016 Boston and New York Marathons. According to GOTR, SoleMates train for the athletic event of their choice while raising money for the local GOTR. SoleMates’ personal goals such as participating in a marathon event raise necessary funds to help GOTR serve more girls in the Coastal Georgia area.

Howe added, “I am truly grateful for my work family at Bernard Williams & Company. They have known me since I first started running,” she said. “Without their understanding and support, my competition and efforts to help GOTR would not be possible.”

Over the next few weeks, Howe said she is running every training mile and every race mile to support the local GOTR. She adds that “I had the wonderful experience of coaching a team this past fall, and I must say it was one of my most rewarding life experiences.  When I decided to volunteer, I had no idea of the impact that this program has on young girls.  I learned quickly that it is life changing and I am coaching again this season."
