"Love Chocolate" 10K and Half Marathon February 11th

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, February 6th, 2017

Runners and walkers still have a chance to participate in a special “pre-Valentine’s” event, the Savannah Love Chocolate Half Marathon and 10K. Presented by Endurance Race Services, the Saturday, February 11 event at Southbridge is unique in more ways than one.  A portion of the event proceeds will benefit the Cory Joseph Wilson Memorial, Inc. and its effort to purchase AEDs for facilities in need.

According to ERS, “This Half Marathon and 10K features chocolate treats from packet pickup, on the course, all the way to the finish line. Hot chocolate, coffee, fondue-style treats, and our festive finish line will make this a great Valentine’s Day Weekend event.”  In addition, “Southbridge is beautiful and the course is the favorite training area for one of our race directors. It features lakes, perfect lawns, old trees, smooth roads and sidewalks. There are low traffic levels on the open course and the homeowners are gracious.”

ABOUT THE DESIGNATED EVENT CHARITY: This event's designated charity is the Cory Joseph Wilson Memorial, Inc. The foundation's namesake, Cory Joseph Wilson, a Savannah native, died in 2013 at age 21 due to a fatal cardiac arrhythmia while in class at Georgia Southern University. There was no AED (automated external defibrillator) nearby at that time. The 501-c-3 foundation uses funds to purchase AEDs for facilities in need. For more information go to www.fireball40.org.
