Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Thursday, February 2nd, 2017

It’s that time of the year when United Way of the Coastal Empire celebrates the community by calling for outstanding volunteer nominees.  The 38th Annual United Way HandsOn Savannah Volunteer Awards Celebration recognizes citizens who demonstrate excellence in community leadership through volunteerism.

“This is the chance for community members, organizations, and businesses to say thank you and show appreciation to people who have done wonderful work to improve the lives of others,” says Gregg Schroeder, President and CEO of United Way of the Coastal Empire.  Nominations for outstanding individuals or groups are requested in the following categories:

  1. Animal Advocacy

  2. Arts & Culture

  3. Education

  4. Environment

  5. Human Services

The nomination form is available at handsonsavannah.org.  Entries must be received by March 6, 2017.

A panel of community-minded judges will select a winner from each category who has demonstrated outstanding achievements.  The United Way Herschel V. Jenkins Volunteer of the Year Award will be selected from the overall winners in the above categories. The winner’s non-profit organization will be awarded $1,000 in honor of the winner.

All nominees will be recognized with free admission to the luncheon, a spotlight in the program booklet, and a small token of appreciation.  Results will be announced during the 38th Annual United Way HandsOn Savannah Volunteer Awards Celebration Luncheon on April 26, 2017 at 11:45 am at Savannah Station. The event is open to the public.  Tickets are $25 per person or $250 for a table of 10.
