Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, October 2nd, 2017

Savannah Christian Preparatory School became the only school in our area to earn a third National Blue Ribbon School Award in just six years.  Betsy DeVos, the U.S. Secretary of Education, has named the Lower School at Savannah Christian Prep as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School which is the second time the Lower School has received our nation’s highest education award.  This coveted award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.

"National Blue Ribbon Schools are active demonstrations of preparing every child for a bright future," said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to the honorees. "You are visionaries, innovators, and leaders. You have much to teach us: some of you personalize student learning, others engage parents and communities in the work and life of your local schools and still others develop strong and forward-thinking leaders from among your teaching staff."

All schools are honored in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, subgroup student scores, and graduation rates:

Exemplary High Performing Schools are among their state's highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools are among their state's highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school's subgroups and all students over the past five years.

Celebrating their 35th year of the Blue Ribbon School program, the U.S. Department of Education will honor the 50 private and the 292 public schools at their National Blue Ribbon School awards at a conference and awards ceremony Nov. 6-7 in Washington, D.C.
Savannah Christian Prep is delighted to have earned the third Blue Ribbon award in the Exemplary High Performing School category.  The Lower School award years are 2011 and 2017 while the Middle School was awarded in 2014.
