Senior Citizens, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people age successfully, received a new vehicle donated by Subaru of America for its Meals on Wheels program. In honor of the donation, SCI held a special unveiling of the vehicle at Chatham Parkway Subaru, located at 7 Park of Commerce Way, Savannah, GA 31405.

“This beautiful new Subaru Outback will help us to better meet the rapidly growing needs for this service in our community. The population of adults over age 60 is expected to increase from the current 28 percent to more than 40 percent in the next 15 years,” said SCI President Patti Lyons. “According to MOWA research, one in every six older adults in Georgia do not know where they will get their next meal. In addition to the physical benefits of good nutrition, a hot meal delivered by a friendly person creates an opportunity for social interaction and a wellness check, helping to improve emotional health and reduce depression. We are so grateful to Subaru for this wonderful gift to our community.”

Each day approximately 1,800 meals are delivered by SCI staff and volunteers as part of the Meals On Wheels program. The 2018 Subaru Outback will enable SCI to reach more seniors throughout the Coastal Empire. The inaugural Meals On Wheels delivery in the new Subaru Outback will be made on November 2.

This fall, Subaru donated 50 new 2018 Subaru Outback vehicles to select Meals on Wheels programs throughout the county, to be used in the delivery of an estimated 53,000 meals to an additional 3,700 seniors across 39 states. Subaru has supported the national Meals on Wheels network for the last nine years through its annual philanthropic event, Share the Love, contributing more than $12 million to Meals on Wheels America and providing more than 1.7 million nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks to seniors.

The Subaru and Meals On Wheels partnership is part of Subaru Loves to Help, a pillar of the automaker’s larger Subaru Love Promise Community Commitment effort dedicated to making a positive impact on local communities across the country.
