Senior Citizens Inc. is pleased to announce the successful completion of their capital campaign to build The Center for Success Aging. The achievement of the campaign’s $3 million goal will enable SCI to expand their facility to meet the increased needs of a rapidly growing senior population in Coastal Georgia.

After obtaining 99.5% of their $3 million goal in pledges and donations, SCI received a commitment for $100,000 from three anonymous donors provided matching gifts from the community could be obtained by October 31st. The community responded to the challenge; donating more than the required $100,000 to meet the match challenge and exceed the capital campaign goal.  Since this campaign is separate from the non-profit’s yearly fundraising to support services, the $3 million had to be raised before construction could begin. SCI hopes to break ground on The Center for Success Aging in the spring of 2018.

“The incredible support we have received is a testament to the value that our community has for those we serve,” said SCI President Patti Lyons. “This building campaign, the first in our nearly sixty year history, will enable us to expand our historic building and campus. This will ultimately enable us to better function as a community resource center and hub for operations that spans the region, all with the goal of assisting older adults’ in aging successfully,” explained Lyons.

Building plans, which can now get underway, call for significant renovations and additions to the facility on Bull Street to expand and enhance services; improve visitor and in-home client experiences; and strengthen the organization’s earned income resources. Key components include:

- A new state-of-the art Adult Daytime Health Center for frail adults and those with cognitive issues due to dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease, that result in them being unable to be left home alone.

- Expanded space for The Learning Center providing hundreds of older adults with the opportunity for expanding friendships and intellectual horizons through participation in classes and lectures on a variety of humanities-based topics.

- Addition of a second kitchen for an expansion of SCI’s Meals On Wheels and SAGE nutritional support.

“SCI has served as a beacon in our community for where to turn for assistance with aging for almost 60 years,” said Lyons. “Completion of the Center for Success Aging will enable us to provide the growing community of older adults and their families with access to the right mix of quality services and resources to meet their needs. It is our goal to increase our capacity from the 10,000 people we currently serve annually to 20,000 people by 2025.”
