The Mercer University School of Medicine recently held its annual emeriti faculty recognition ceremony. Four members of the Mercer University School of Medicine – Savannah Campus were awarded Emeritus status after approval by the Mercer School of Medicine Board of Directors. They are Carl Boyd, M.D, professor emeritus surgery; Keith Ellis, professor emeritus family practice; Raymond Rudolph, M.D., professor emeritus surgery; and William Wessinger, M.D., professor emeritus surgery.

The designation of professor emeritus is a lifetime honor.

The ceremony took place in the President’s Dining Room on the campus of Mercer University in Macon.

Mercer University’s School of Medicine was established in 1982 to educate physicians and health professionals to meet the primary care and health care needs of rural and medically underserved areas of Georgia. Today, more than 60 percent of graduates currently practice in the state of Georgia, and of those, more than 80 percent are practicing in rural or medically underserved areas of Georgia. The school opened a four-year campus in Savannah in 2008 at Memorial University Medical Center.
