A&R Logistics announced that it has made a significant additional investment in packaging equipment for A&R's Savannah, GA facility by purchasing a new Windmoeller & Hoelscher Topas SL2600 form, fill & seal packaging line.  This is a significant addition to the project aimed at establishing transportation and plastics packaging facility in Savannah to handle the anticipated increase in export plastic resins.  Additionally, A&R has installed supersack, box, and bulk container loading; with the new line expected to be operational in Q1 2018.

Commenting on the investment, Richard Mitchell, President, stated, "A&R is excited to offer a full line of packaging and transportation services to our customers who have trusted A&R with their plastics handling for over 40 years.  We also look forward to new opportunities and relationships as the plastic export market continues to grow.  We are very pleased to partner with Georgia Ports, one of the largest ports in the country, to offer an immediate solution to the shipping community."

The Port of Savannah is home to the largest single-terminal container facility of its kind in North America.  Port of Savannah's Garden City Terminal is the fourth busiest container handling facility in the United States, encompassing more than 1,200 acres and moving millions of tons of containerized cargo annually.  Savannah offers the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts' largest selection of global ocean carrier services with 36 weekly vessel calls, making Savannah the unequaled gateway to reach more of the markets needed to succeed.

"A&R Logistics' decision to add a 25KG plastic resin packaging line to their Savannah operations is exciting news," said Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Griff Lynch. "Along with an ample supply of empty containers, and the state of Georgia's high over-the-road weight allowances, A&R and GPA are positioned to serve every market around the world."
