Mountainfilm on Tour- Savannah will take place January 18-20, 2018, and will screen over thirty films throughout the three-day festival. The mission of Mountainfilm on Tour-Savannah is to educate and inspire local audiences to create a better world through the power of film, people, stories and conversations. Mountainfilm on Tour- Savannah is a partner of Telluride-based, Mountainfilm.

The festival will kick off on Thursday, January 18, at 7:00 p.m., at Trustees Theater, with the screening of Take Every Wave: The Life of Laird Hamilton, a feature length film by Academy Award nominated, Primetime Emmy-award winning director/producer, Rory Kennedy. Take Every Wave tracks the remarkable life and legendary career of big wave surfer Laird Hamilton. Much admired by the public, though often disdained or ignored by the surf industry itself, Hamilton is a unique sports icon- an athlete
who has refused to compete professionally yet has dominated big wave surfing as no other figure in history has ever done. Laird’s biographical story is told against the backdrop of a winter surf season on
Kauai, where El Nino storm systems threaten to bring the biggest surf in decades. Threaded throughout
is a revealing, deeply personal interview with Laird as well as conversations with family members, friends, collaborators and detractors who know him best.

Rory Kennedy is one of America’s most prolific documentary filmmakers. She has made more than 30
highly acclaimed documentaries. Her films have appeared on HBO, PBS, Lifetime Television, A & E, Court
TV, The Oxygen Network and TLC. Kennedy will join the audience, via Skype, for a Q & A session
immediately following the film.  Friday and Saturday nights will feature documentary short films, including Ascend, Doing it Scared, Zain’s Summer: From Refugee to American Boy, For Flint, and Lost in Light-- in addition to many more inspiring and adventure-seeking films. Two special screenings on Friday night include One Hundred Thousand Beating Hearts and Chocolate Spokes. One Hundred Thousand Beating Hearts follows Will Harris, a fourth-generation Georgia cattle farmer, who transformed his family’s industrial farm by making a commitment to the welfare of his animals, environmental sustainability and locally produced food.

Following the screening, members of the Harris family will join the audience for a Q & A session. Gregory
Crichlow, the star of Chocolate Spokes, will also be present on Friday night and will answer questions
following his film.

Following the screening of The Time Travelers on Saturday night, Rob Prechtl, a member of the U.S.
Men’s Rafting Team, will answer questions about his team’s self-imposed challenge: to attempt to break
the speed record for 227 miles of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon by rowing the entire
stretch in only 34 hours.

Education is a strong element of Mountainfilm on Tour - Savannah’s mission. The festival will host four
thousand children from Savannah Chatham County Public Schools at Trustees Theater and Lucas Theater on January 18th and 19th as part of its Movies that Matter program. This program uses the power of film to educate and inspire young audiences to create a better world. In addition, Mountainfilm on Tour-Savannah will host on-site screenings at Jenkins High School and Woodville-Tompkins High School on Wednesday, January 17th.

Film screenings will be held at Trustees Theater, 216 East Broughton Street, each evening at 7:00 p.m. A family matinee will also take place at Trustees Theater on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Other festival events include a coffee talk with visiting filmmakers and film personalities at Kennedy Pharmacy, 323 East Broughton Street, on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., and an organized bike ride/walk through historic Savannah, in conjunction with the Savannah Bicycle Campaign, leaving from Kennedy Pharmacy at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
