Alumna Quintina Burroughs-Lee ’08, Georgia Department of Community Supervision officer, was the recipient of the DCS Tiffany Bishop Award during the department’s fall 2017 award ceremony. The award is given in recognition of first-year DCS officers who have performed beyond expected standards, produced consistently high-quality work and exemplified unity with co-workers and the community.

Officer Burroughs-Lee, assigned to the Atlanta Judicial Circuit, was recognized for her demonstrated flexibility and ambition to thrive despite ongoing challenges. Within two months of being hired, she partnered with the Metro Atlanta Day Reporting Center, an intensive non-residential prison diversion program targeted at high-risk, high-need offenders with a history of substance abuse and non-compliant behaviors, to participate and donate to the Toys for Tots campaign.

Prior to attending Basic Community Supervision Officer Training and in addition to her normal responsibilities as a Community Supervision Officer, she was elected as the Community Service Coordinator for the Atlanta Judicial Circuit.

In her role as Community Service Coordinator, Officer Burroughs-Lee created a back-to-school campaign and friendly competition in her local office that resulted in the collection and distribution of more than 60 backpacks and dozens of school supplies to students at the various National Night Out site locations around the city of Atlanta.

Officer Burroughs-Lee, an English major at SSU, credits her success to Gloria Shearin, Ph.D., one of her English professors. She taught me how to be creative,” she says. “She always pushed me to exceed beyond the norm, making sure that I find my voice in everything that I do.”
