Dine and Drink to Fight Senior Hunger on Thursday, March 8th

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Friday, March 2nd, 2018

The Live Oak Restaurant Group is donating a portion of qualifying “Buy a Meal, Give a Meal” sales
on March 8 to the Senior Citizens Inc. Meals on Wheels program to help fight senior hunger.

Participating Live Oak Restaurants are: Spanky’s and Dub’s Pub on River Street, Tubby’s Tank House in Thunderbolt, Fiddlers on the Southside, and Molly McGuire’s on Wilmington Island. To be included in the donation, diners must mention “Meals on Wheels” to their server.

According to SCI President, Patti Lyons, “the funds raised with the “Buy a Meal, Give a Meal” day at the Live Oak Restaurants will help reduce the number of seniors in our community facing the threat of hunger each day. Georgia ranks 7th in the nation for senior hunger. One in every six seniors is unsure where they will get their next meal. At SCI, our volunteers and staff deliver nearly 1,800 meals each day but that is not enough. There are still hundreds of older adults on the waiting list for meals and support like this will help us in our effort to reduce the wait, by providing healthy meals delivered with a warm smile to more of our seniors in need”.

A long-time supporter of SCI and its programs to assist older adults in aging successfully, Katie Murphy, Marketing Director of the Live Oak Restaurant Group said, “As a family owned and operated business with deep roots in the Savannah community, it’s important to us to give back.”
