Georgia Tech-Savannah Brings K-12 InVenture Challenge Training to Savannah Area

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Friday, March 30th, 2018

For the first time, Georgia Tech-Savannah is bringing the K-12 InVenture Challenge to Savannah starting with a teacher training workshop on April 10, 2018. Teams of up to three students will compete for awards in invention, STEM, and entrepreneurship in the statewide K-12 InVenture Prize in Atlanta.

“To date, more than 5000 students have participated in the K-12 InVenture Challenge in Georgia, yet there has been no teams from the Savannah area competing in this statewide competition,” said Trish Heichel, GIFT program coordinator. “We are here to support local teachers and their student teams from idea to conception, so they can have the chance to bring their project to Atlanta and win.”

The K-12 InVenture Challenge is the elementary, middle, and high school variation of the InVenture Prize at Georgia Tech, which is the largest undergraduate invention competition in the United States. Savannah and surrounding area teachers are encouraged to submit a team of students to participate in the domain of their choosing. Participation in the InVenture Challenge is held in high regard with esteemed universities and has led to several students becoming patent holders.

Training for the competition will provide teachers with a structured, simplified approach for them to guide students through an open ended design problem. The April session will take place at the Georgia Tech Savannah campus at 210 Technology Circle on April 10, 2018. The session will run from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. The fee, including lunch, is $25.
