Last week, bariatric surgeon Oliver Whipple, M.D. performed the region’s first gastric sleeve surgery utilizing the da Vinci Xi surgical system, the newest surgical robot at Memorial Health.

“The da Vinci Xi is just one of the many investments in minimally invasive technology that HCA’s Memorial Health is bringing to our community and the region,” said Shayne George, Memorial Health CEO. “We are excited to make this advanced surgical system available to our patients.”

“Memorial’s investment in this new technology means fewer incisions, less scarring, and a faster recovery for patients,” said Whipple. “Access to robotically-assisted bariatric procedures means that our patients will have an improved surgical experience with less downtime so they can recover and achieve their weight loss goals sooner.”

The da Vinci Xi surgical system is the newest robot from Intuitive Surgical and provides surgeons with greater access, improved 3D visibility, and enhanced range of motion during surgical procedures. All of these features help ensure the best outcomes for all patients.
