Registration Open for Upcoming Georgia Tech Coding Boot Camp

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Thursday, March 1st, 2018

Georgia Tech-Savannah will launch a live, online version of its coding boot camp on April 28, 2018. The 24-week programs will give participants the skills they need to create front and back-end web applications, an industry with continued growth.

“The demand for coding has grown exponentially in recent years,” said Diane Lee, director of Georgia Tech-Savannah. “More people are looking to acquire those skills, so we will be launching our online version to expand the reach for those who can’t make it to campus. Remote students will receive the same quality of education as attending in-person with more flexibility.”

Over the past year, Georgia Tech-Savannah has had two graduating classes with the third to graduate in May 2018. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, web development ranks among the world’s fastest-growing professions. The opportunities for skilled developers have long surpassed the labor supply: The job outlook is 15% which is much faster than average. In 2017, the mean salary for professional web developers was $82,750, with some earning as much as $135,500 a year.

The curriculum covers everything from the basics of coding, algorithms and data structure, to intensive training in Javascript, Node.js, HTML, CSS, jQuery, C#, and more. In addition to learning in the classroom, students will spend 10-15 hours each week on outside projects and experiential learning activities to build a professional project portfolio that showcases their abilities to create web applications.

Students will also receive a range of career-planning services, portfolio reviews, demo days, recruiting assistance and extensive staff support. Local businesses participating in Georgia Tech Coding Boot Camp’s employer network will advise on the subject material and other student needs. While no previous experience is required, applicants should have a basic understanding of coding. Upon graduating, students will receive a certificate in Fullstack Web Development from Georgia Tech Professional Education, currently the only university-backed boot camp in the State of Georgia.

The Coding Boot Camp, which will start on April 28, 2018, is designed with consideration of the schedules of working professionals and students. The class schedule consists of two three-hour evening classes during the week (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.) and a four-hour class on Saturdays (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.) which students will attend remotely.
