Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, March 6th, 2018

The Savannah Golf Championship announced that Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia and United Service Organizations Fort Stewart/HAAF (USO Fort Stewart/HAAF) have joined as partners for the 2018 event. The two organizations will be featured on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1 of the Web.com Tour’s inaugural Savannah Golf Championship, which will take place March 29 – April 1 at Deer Creek Golf Course at The Landings Club.

“Second Harvest, United Service Organizations Fort Stewart/HAAF and the Savannah Golf Championship are focused on giving back to South Georgia,” said Tim Iley, Executive Director of the Savannah Golf Championship. “It’s exciting to have partners committed to making the Savannah Golf Championship a staple on the Web.com Tour as we continue to grow the status and stature of the event.”

USO Fort Stewart/HAAF has provided entertainment and other programs for the United States Armed Forces and their families for more than 70 years. They will be the Charity of the Day on March 31 and will activate on site, including the hosting of military personnel and first responders in the Patriots Outpost located near the 18th green. Amenities include complimentary food and beverages provided by local favorite, Service Brewing.

With the tournament concluding on Easter Sunday, Easter Brunch will be provided by Metro Diner at the Main Spectator Entrance at 11 AM ET for the first 200 people through the gate. The Easter Bunny will be on site to take pictures with all proceeds going to Second Harvest, Sunday’s charity of the day. Also, Web.com Tour players in the field at the Savannah Golf Championship will visit Second Harvest early in the week to aid in packing boxes for distribution to families in the area.

“We are delighted to be chosen as the Charity of the Day for championship Sunday of the Savannah Golf Championship,” said Mary Jane Crouch, Executive Director of Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia. “With over 51,000 food insecure individuals in Chatham County alone, we are so appreciative of the Web.com Tour’s local support of Second Harvest and their desire to raise awareness and help end hunger in Coastal Georgia.”

The Savannah Golf Championship will also conduct a Ball Mark Contest where players and fans will be asked to decorate their ball and post to social media. Kids will be able to participate at the Chatham Orthopedic Associates Junior Clinic pre-tournament and fans can take part onsite, Thursday through Saturday. The tournament will donate to both charities for every video posted on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #MarkOutHunger or #WebSavannah.
