Savannah VOICE & Music Festivals Partner for Co-production 'Classical Broadway'

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, March 19th, 2018

For the fourth consecutive year, two of Savannah’s leading performing arts organizations, The Savannah VOICE Festival and Savannah Music Festival, are collaborating.  This year the concerts will recreate “Classical Broadway” in Coastal Georgia.  These two performances of timeless musical theatre hits will feature first-class singers performing some of the best of Broadway, from Rodgers and Hammerstein to today’s most popular show tunes.

This highlight towards the end of the Savannah Music Festival, which runs March 29-April 14, will feature two performances at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, April 13 at the Charles H. Morris Center, 10 E. Broad St.

Savannah VOICE Festival co-founder Maria Zouves once again teams up with Broadway veteran Dan Gettinger to direct this lively show with special host, world-renowned baritone, Sherrill Milnes. Audiences at both shows will enjoy the talents of Jessica Ann Best, Sean Christensen, Nan Qin, Scott Russell, Angela De Venuto, and James Wright. Gettinger a distinguished and beloved pianist, will also accompany the artists as they journey through musical theatre's rich history.

The Savannah VOICE Festival and Savannah Music Festival teamed up for their first co-production in 2015 with a full-scale opera. Following the success of 2015’s Suor Angelica & Gianni Schicchi co-production, the organizations once again partnered during the 2016 Savannah Music Festival with two extraordinary concerts: Arias & Encores and Mozart in Prague: An Operatic Journey. The dynamic duo continued this collaboration in 2017 with two performances of Arias & Encores, which kicked-off the Savannah Music Festival.

“Our organization greatly looks forward to this annual partnership with the Savannah Music Festival, who shares our mission of providing world class programming to our community,” said Zouves. “This co-production is sure to be enjoyed by all with our program of treasured Broadway favorites and a few lesser known gems!”

Tickets to the performance cost $40 each and are available for purchase online at www.savannahmusicfestival.org/events, by phone at 912.525.5050 and in person at the Savannah Box Office, 216 E. Broughton St.
