Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Wednesday, April 11th, 2018

Two Savannah-based cultural organizations have announced an exciting collaboration that will take place on Saturday, April 14. The American Traditions Vocal Competition is slated to team up with the Savannah Art Walk between 2 and 7 p.m. ATC Vocalist and Artistic Director Mikki Sodergren will be performing at the “Opening Reception” at 2 p.m. at The Kimpton Brice Hotel, 601 E. Bay St., as well as at the “After Party” at 6 p.m. in the Madison Room at The DeSoto Savannah, 15 E. Liberty St., in downtown Savannah.

The April Art Walk will begin at 2 p.m. at The Kimpton Brice Hotel with mimosas and champagne, where participants will be able to meet some of the talented artists whose work will be displayed. The group will then explore galleries on a self-guided tour, utilizing the Savannah Art Walk App and/or Map of 18 Galleries located around the downtown area while enjoying Parisian-inspired refreshments at various locations. The Art Walk will wrap up with the After Party, featuring French-inspired art, and will include an art raffle, silent auction, live music, and beverages. Funds from the silent auction will benefit the outreach work of the ATC, a nonprofit organization. Artistic Director Mikki Sodergren will be joined by pianist Kellee Love Haselton to perform the music of Gershwin, Cole Porter and other evocative musicians during these events.

“We could not be more thrilled about this collaborative event with the Savannah Art Walk,” Sodergren said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for two Savannah-based arts organizations to come together and continue to promote the arts in our community.”

The Savannah Art Walk is hosted the second Saturday of each month and provides participants with the opportunity to explore the community, enjoy free libations, and meet the talented Savannah Art Walk Artists and Gallery Owners. The Savannah Art Walk is a positive outreach event to raise national and local awareness of Savannah’s vibrant Art Scene as well as to increase patronage for local artists.

Owner of the Tiffani Taylor Gallery and the founder of the Savannah Art Walk, Tiffani Taylor, said, “Collaboration is an Art and it is an honor to partner with the ATC. Together we shine brighter and bring attention to our musical and artistic initiatives that support artists with a Renaissance and Guild-like mentality of positivity. Our individual and collaborative endeavors also benefit the community and our thriving tourist industry.”

The ATC was established as the premiere vocal competition focusing on celebrating and preserving all styles of classic American music. This annual competition awards over $40,000 in cash prizes. As part of community-driven service and initiative, the nonprofit organization provides music education, exposure and performances for Savannah locals of all ages.
