The city of Richmond Hill has been awarded a 2018 Historic Preservation Fund grant for $10,029.30 from the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The grant is for the city to conduct a historic resources survey and to develop design guidelines.
Richmond Hill was one of seven Georgia municipalities to receive grants in support of historic preservation activities in their respective communities. The 2018 Historic Preservation Fund grants facilitate historic preservation planning initiatives and projects throughout the state. The grants are provided annually through the Historic Preservation Fund of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Park Service and are administered by the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
In addition to the city of Richmond Hill, other Georgia cities selected were Augusta, Hogansville,
Savannah, Tybee Island, Washington and McIntosh County. To be eligible to become a federal Certified Local Government, a city or county must have passed a preservation ordinance and have established a historic preservation committee.
