Optim Surgery Center is pleased to announce Ed Osterman, RN, BSN, as the new Total Joint & Spine Coordinator. In this position, he works closely with joint replacement and spine surgery patients to prepare them for their surgical procedures.

During his one-on-one educational sessions with patients, Osterman covers every aspect of the joint replacement process or spine surgery, from pre-op to discharge and follow-up care.

“I’m excited and proud to work with the very experienced and professional team at the Optim Surgery Center,” said Osterman. “It’s so rewarding for me to be a part of the process in educating patients, answering their questions and even calming their fears. When patients are informed and know what to expect, they gain more confidence and feel better all along the way.”

Optim Surgery Center is an ambulatory surgery center with extended stay capabilities that is solely focused on orthopedic procedures. Partnering with the physicians of Optim Orthopedics, Optim Surgery Center provides care for the following sub-specialties: sports medicine; total joint replacement; interventional pain management; spine (neck and back); foot and ankle; hand, wrist, and elbow; shoulder; and pediatric orthopedics.

Osterman’s career in nursing began when he was laid off from his job in manufacturing after nearly 20 years. He attended Armstrong Atlantic State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2009. He went on to work as a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital, most recently as resource coordinator of the orthopedic floor and neurology/med surge unit.

“We’re fortunate to have a clinician with Ed’s experience leading our patient education program,” said John Salandi, Administrator of Optim Surgery Center.  “Ed’s passion for orthopedic care is obvious when you see him talking with our patients.  He is an important part of Optim Surgery Center’s goal to ensure the best possible outcome for each of our patients."

He enjoys spending time with his wife, Karen, a nurse practitioner, and their four children: Zac, 26; Brayley, 23; Matthew, 16; and Cayden, 11.
