Employability Announces Board of Directors for 2018-2019

EmployAbility is proud to announce its Board of Directors for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. Kim Bockius-Suwyn, Chief Operating Officer, Enriched Business Strategies, and Executive Director, Savannah Book Festival will continue to serve as board chair. Other officers include Michael Owens, Tourism Leadership Council, as vice chair; Brian Hussey, BankSouth, as secretary, and Bruce Schneidewind, retired, as treasurer.

Three new directors have been installed: Dr. William L. Cathcart, retired; Megan Miller of Savannah Morning News; and Courtney Rawlins of Old Savannah Tours.

These new directors join returning directors Leigh Acevedo, Savannah Economic Development Authority; Lee Beckmann, Georgia Ports Authority; Alvin Hall, EmployAbility Packaging Assembly; John Manly, John Manly PC; Corey McClimans, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems; Aaron Phillips, retired; Lynda Sueirro, Parent Representative; and Jason Usry, WJCL News.

“We’re excited to welcome these three outstanding community leaders to our Board,” said Dr. Ken Boyd, Executive Director. “We have a strong leadership foundation in our Board, one that will be enhanced by each of these individual’s passionate commitment to workforce development for everyone in our community, regardless of their level of ability. Their wealth of knowledge and professional experience is an unbelievable asset to our organization.”

Dr. William L. Cathcart has lived in Savannah for 33 years and served with distinction on numerous civic and service related boards, including USO Savannah. He has also served for the past 5 years as a Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for the Coastal Georgia Region, and he is the first civilian so honored. Prior to his retirement in 2014, he served as the Vice-President and General Manager of WTOC-TV.

Megan Miller, Director of Marketing and Events for Savannah Morning News, is passionate about connecting people and organizations across southeast Georgia. She supports local philanthropy through events that recognize and honor change makers across the region. She currently serves on both the Marketing and Volunteer Committees at The United Way of the Coastal Empire.

Courtney Rawlins, Relationship Manager for Old Savannah Tours, has been part of the Savannah business community for more than 20 years. Prior to joining Old Savannah Tours, Courtney worked as Relationship Manager Assistant with State Bank and Trust, where she was instrumental in the transfer of data during a banking merger, the training of new employees, and was recognized numerous times for exemplary customer service. She has led several local philanthropic initiatives, including the “Savannah Helps Savannah” initiative and Savannah’s Best Connections, and serves the local business community through her work with the Buy Local Membership Committee, Tourism Leadership Council Membership Committee, and as Chairman of the Pooler Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Council.
