Greenbriar Children's Center Earns Reaccreditation
Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Greenbriar has received its reaccreditation from the Council on Accreditation. The COA accredits over 2,000 private and public organizations and programs that serve more than 7 million individuals and families in the United States, Canada, and overseas. To maintain their status, Greenbriar must go through the process every four years. Greenbriar is one of only three organizations in the Coastal Empire to have achieved this prestigious status.
When going through the re-accreditation process, candidates are rated on 16 overarching standards that are divided into three parts: Administration and Management (eight standards), Service Delivery Administration (four standards), and Service (four standards). Those applying for reaccreditation are reviewed by peer reviewers from similar organizations, who spend 2-3 days on-site reviewing Greenbriar's files, interviewing stakeholders (staff, board, funders, community partners, clients, etc.), and inspecting all of the organization’s facilities for safety and security. The report compiled by the peer reviewers is submitted to the accreditation committee, which makes its decision after reviewing the detailed report. The entire reaccreditation process takes approximately six months to complete.
While the formal reaccreditation process is every four years, Greenbriar still must submit an annual maintenance of accreditation report to demonstrate to the council that they are upholding the standards between evaluations.
“We are thrilled to maintain our accredited status in the community. When working with children to ensure a bright and healthy future, quality assurance is so important. We’re proud to meet the rigorous standards set by the prestigious Council on Accreditation, which accredits the full continuum of child welfare, behavioral health, and community-based social services,” Greenbriar Executive Director Gena Taylor said.
Greenbriar Children’s Center provides emergency housing for abused, neglected, runaway and homeless children and young adults ages 11-21, as well as family counseling services which lead to the healthy development of children and young adults and to the strengthening of families. The organization’s services include emergency shelter, runaway/homeless programs, independent living, family preservation, early childhood development programs at two pre-schools, and Project Safe Place. Greenbriar has been serving the Savannah community since 1949.
